SHAH ALAM – DRB-HICOM Bhd. through its subsidiary USF Hicom (Malaysia) Sdn. Ltd. (USF Hicom) invest RM2 million for the operation of the local assembly (CKD) model of high-powered tricycle, Can-am Spyder Roadster (Spyder).
The installation was done at the facilities of the National Motorcycle and Engine Co.. Ltd. (Modenas) in Gurun, Kedah. USF Hicom Chief Operating Officer, Iqbal Sharom said, the model produced in Canada would be fully dissociated in Australia before being brought into Malaysia to be installed in the desert to meet the vehicle standards CKD. “Therefore, we are able to offer lower prices to consumers,” he said at the launch of the first CKD Spyder model here.Also present were Minister for Defence, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DRB-HICOM Bhd chairman., Datuk Syed Mohamad Aidid Syed Murtaza.
Spyder has a Y-shaped frame, with two wheels in front and one wheel at the rear which provides more stability than the ordinary motorcycle 998cc powerful engine and equipped with the ability to produce up to 106 horsepower.Although it is a three-wheel vehicles, Spyder also comes with a comparable safety technology such as modern cars today as Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Stability Control System (SCS) and traction Control System (TCS).
